Overall, this is how I would break down my recommendations: The interface looks like it was designed by a GeoCities user and is by far the worst of the 3. It has by far the best content of the big 3 stream boxes.
It does what it needs to do and I couldn't even imagine using a Chromecast instead since dedicated remote is a necessity based on where our phone are plugged in every night. The Roku boxes are in the kitchen and our bedroom. The downsides are lack of Plex (although we tend to purchase our content these days and there is a "hack" for the AppleTV 3 to get it to work) and no Amazon Instant but a majority of what we watch is Netflix, Hulu Plus, NHL Gamecenter Live, and HBO Go anyways. The interface is very well done and for the last year or so they have been consistently adding more content.

We have 2 Android phones and Windows PCs. I have an iPad but it never interacts with the AppleTV. The AppleTV gets used the most and we are not even an "Apple" household. It was basically me staring at my phone and asking her, "how about this?" Casting tabs from Chrome doesn't work very well and considering I have a very high end PC, I know it isn't a problem on the computer's end. The big difference is the channels like The Colbert Report will pick up full episodes on the Roku but not on my phone/Chromecast, so I get a little more content from the Roku. I've had a few small issues using Plex on my CC but nothing that I think won't be fixed over time. A touch screen remote wouldn't be great while running - but it's great in almost every other case. This is a huge bonus for me because my Roku is in my basement so I can watch it on the treadmill. I have one of each and find that it really depends on what you're trying to do. I was going to make a pros/cons list but really I think it's more fair to highlight the key differences for the applications I use.
